When a patient needs nasogastric feeding, time matters. Delays in confirming tube position mean delays in nutrition, medication, and recovery — and on a busy ward anywhere in the world, “we’ll re-check later” can stretch longer than anyone wants.

Two practical things slow that first feed down:

• Struggling to get aspirate. No sample, no pH reading — so you wait, reposition, or order an X-ray.
• Waiting for confirmatory imaging. Safe, but it ties up the patient, the porter, and the radiology queue.
